As of January 2016, the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs has mandated that all monitored security systems must have an annual maintenance check performed to prevent false alarms.  In the past, we have recommended maintenance every 18-24 months, depending on the environment. 

The problem with Triple Play Programs: If you have this plan through your cable provider, you are using VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) for your phone service.  These plans have a disclaimer which states that VOIP is NOT to be used with security or life safety equipment communications. It may be working at this point, but it is unreliable and could stop at any time.   Verizon’s “Old” Copper Hard Wired Telephone Lines are reliable, but lines are being phased out and you will eventually be forced to switch to FIOS.  

The solution is a Cellular Communicator:  The Telguard TG-1 Communicator has a $250 installation fee and a one-time $25 account activation fee. After that, it is just $12.95/month for cellular service.  This is the most reliable and economical solution for ensuring your security system communicates with central station.
